See Diana's Devine Designs This Summer at the YMCA Dream House

Diana Hudson Kresnye's designs will be showcased from June 26 through early August 2009 at the Lake County YMCA's Dream House located in Mentor, Ohio. The rustic and charming home is in the gated community Marshview Landing, which sits next to Mentor Marsh, a 691-acre nature preserve known for attracting migrating waterfowl. This year Diana designed a bedroom for a college-age guy.

"One of the challenges with this room came from the awkward angle of the pitched ceiling," Diana explained. "It made a sizeable portion of the relatively small room unusable for something like a desk, dresser or seating," she said. To recover the space, Diana creatively tucked a platform bed under the pitched ceiling salvaging what head room she could. Most of the furniture in the room is from IKEA in Pittsburgh, "It has a great 'vibe' for the college-aged group and you can't beat the price!" she said with a laugh. IKEA is a Swedish retail store known for its affordable, modern furniture.

Diana's design pays homage to Bowling Green State University where she earned her undergraduate degree. "It was my choice as to what college to showcase in the room. I wanted to stay in-state and BGSU worked perfectly into the color palette I had to work within," the Falcon alumnus said. "It's great to be able to give Bowling Green a little love!"

The vibrant color palette Diana used in the room helped to create a unique look that she says you won't find straight out of a catalog. "Another challenge when designing teen rooms is to infuse their personality into the space and to resist the urge to just buy a room lock, stock and barrel right out of a catalog," Diana said. "While most of the furniture is from IKEA, everything else comes from 10 different stores that run the gamut from PB Teen to the Dollar Tree," she explained. "Creativity is my secret ingredient because ultimately, creating a home you love is not about your budget - it's about imagination."
